Files are best when you organize them well within the computer you are using. Years after or even days after if you start searching for a file you know the frustration of keeping multiple files.
Another disadvantage is that if you want some data like fees collected this year Vs comparison between mean of fees collected over the last 10 years. You have lot of files to refer and collation to do.
But files are best in one thing. If your superior immediately asks for some status/report on something which comes out of blue in his mind, files are best. But try to end your story there.
